One was seen by witnesses to enter LAOU KAI FOOK's Silk
Store, while the other started off in the direction of the
Bund.
There were no casualities.
At least a part of this report was later verified, for
the Police discovered a new .32 caliber Mauser concealed be-
tween rolls of silk in the store. The magazine, which holds
10 rounds, was empty.
The bullet proof car was hit squarely by nine bullets,
all aimed at the rear seat, while one bullet ricocheted off
the hood. Although nine bullets pierced the outer steel
body of the car, none penetrated the thick armour plates.
The window glass of the limousine, one and a quarter inches
thick, was not hit.

ZAU SHEH-KUNG, who for approximately 10 months now
has been the puppet general director of the "Consolidated
Tax Bureau", had just left his office at 230 Kiukiang Road
for his home, located at 39 Nanyang Road. He was travelling
with his personal assistant, bodyguard and chauffeur in his
expensive bullet-and-bomb-proof Buick-8 limousine, licence
No.10248. Following him was another car No.10241, bearing
his four other bodyguards.
None of the bodyguards fired a shot in response, accord- ing to eyewitnesses, neither was there any other indications
that they did.

The attempted assassination is remarkable in more than
ZAU SHEH-KUNG, it was learned last night, does not
often go to the Kiukiang Road Office, but prefers to spend most of his time at his Nanyang Road home which is heavily
guarded.
Yesterday afternoon on his personal telephone, which is
for his own exclusive use, he received a call at his home that there had been a $40,000 misappropriation in his office. It is understood that he was informed that his presence was required.
